Timing

So I have a schedule in the mornings. I wake up at 6:30, feed Scarlet, get dressed, eat breakfast, make the bed, and sign in to work by 7:00. This schedule is perfect because Josh doesn't leave for work until 7:30, so I have time enough to get ready for the day while he plays with Scarlet. When I need to shower, I wait until Josh leaves for work, Scarlet has had her second feeding of the day, and she goes down for her nap. That gives me time to take a 15-minute break from work to jump in the shower.

Flash back to last night. While doing the dishes, Josh and I noticed an unpleasant smell and a slight pooling of water in the corner of the kitchen where the washer and dryer should go. We don't have a washer and dryer, so we just put our laundry basket and our laundry detergent there. It turns out the faucet-looking things that are supposed to connect to the washer and provide water were leaking down our walls and soaking our tile. So we called Scott our landlord and he said he'd be by to check on them, not specifying when.

Back to this morning, I am feeding Scarlet just before putting her down for her nap when Josh sends me a text saying to make sure I'm ready in case Scott shows up today. I smile because I know I will be ready in ten minutes as soon as I can get Scarlet to sleep. She goes to sleep, I go into the bathroom to shower, and a knock comes from the front door.

Oy.

Scott's timing is just awful.

School Woes

I spent six hours today working on a single task for my class. It was pretty discouraging because although I definitely answered all thirteen prompts and completely filled fifteen pages, I still have to attend two more study sessions and review my work before I'll feel confident enough to submit it. I started the assignment last Wednesday and have been working on it ever since.

I was supposed to work on this class during my maternity leave to give myself a head start, but I didn't do a single school-related thing while on leave and it was a struggle to get back into the groove of school once my leave was over. I technically started on June first, but we moved into a new apartment and it took a little bit for me to stop finding nooks for all of our things and start focusing on my schoolwork. I've now talked to my mentor three times in three weeks and I still don't have a single task completed to show for it. It's getting very discouraging.

The other aspect of this task is that it's part one out of five, and I've never had a more difficult or a longer class in my program before. I'm pretty sure this is the class that makes or breaks a lot of MBA students and I just have to get through it. Josh helped me out a bit by pointing out that once I submit this task (and it hopefully passes evaluation), I'll be 20% finished with this nightmare of a course. Here's hoping the rest of the course doesn't take as much time or effort because my brain is just fried. I tried to work on another class this evening after I finished up that task, but my eyes wouldn't focus and my mind kept wandering. I guess I needed a break, so Josh and I watched a couple episodes of Master Chef instead (It's our one summer show and we just love it).

Tomorrow I'll get started on more school with a different class and a different task. I'll also attend a study session and work on a super-fast edit for a friend's book. If I get all of that done tomorrow, I'll feel like I can totally do this school thing again. Here's hoping I'm able to focus!
